The Aeolian String Quartet
(Sydney Humphreys & Raymond Keenlyside, violins - Watson Forbes, viola - Derek Simpson, 'cello)
Concert Artist STCAM.5002 1966 LP/matrices. The Violin Sonata is very vivid. 1963 published recordings. Scarce LP. Recorded: Sonotape Studios, Soho, London.
NOT ON CD Original surface ('CD quiet' + manual edits) 1965 Summit stereo LP of the Aeolian Qt in Elgar String Qt + Vaughan Williams Qt no.1 >>> Sleeve-note / labels >>>
Mr Fuzzy Nebulae (deceased ??) & Mr Busted >>>>
Very sad if this is indeed your last upload. Anyway: I am a great fan of these post and thank you for all your work.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Frustrated. Mega don't give Download's - but can be inferred by post views; so they can clearly run into Thousands - but not a titter from anyone...
DeleteFar superior LP transfers to any blog that I'm aware-of: those invariably compromised by excessive software intervention (for starters), etc.
Nowhere else would you hear the sheer realism of the Violin Sonata (unavailable since the short-lived 1966 LP) - but (on, say, "Busted's" blog) it would get inundated with 'thankyou's'...for something grossly inferior: which would appeal to his clientele!! (added a little 2018 idiot's 'message' from his blog (Lois Lane/Cleveland LP's - which I have)..
Your transfers are excellent, but you always seem so bitter and cross that it discourages people from thanking you.
DeleteActually it's the time these things take to edit (my way)..
DeleteI don't want 'thanks' - just some sort of interest shown (relative to such downloading - I mean; not a single response with 1000+ download posts?) - why else do you think most blogs have closed-down?!
I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the selfless dedication you have shown and the exceptional quality of your transcriptions. I have been a devoted follower of your blog for quite some time and have always been an ardent admirer. It is with a heavy heart that I learned of your decision to cease further updates. Nonetheless, I extend my heartfelt wishes for your well-being and success in all your future endeavors. Once again, I extend my deepest thanks to you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words. It's a bit sad - but as an LP typically always took some 3-4 hours "to make decent" - to get not a single response when downloads are considerable makes it seem futile.
DeleteMany sites (LP etc) anyway have gone silent - so it's optimistic to consider matters could improve - and it lessens visitor interest -other than to just grab 'yet more' !!.
Have one or two near-edited/ready from old dubs (Rangstrom...) - but the unused sleeve-scans (many 100's) tell me the effort was always impractical.
I've actually checked out the transcription resources shared on Buster's blog as well. However, I must say the sound quality is a bit rough and lacks that certain captivating factor. It takes a fine-tuned musical ear and top-notch transcription gear to truly capture the essence. On the other hand, I've had the pleasure of listening to many of the resources you've shared. While some may be in mono, they possess a unique charm and offer that authentic vinyl experience.
DeleteYes - altho' I've avoided commenting, in all these years, on others' transfers I was intrigued by his recent "Solomon" material.
DeleteI deliberately used original-label HMV mono's of Brahms PC1 & Tchaikovsky PC1 (time consuming) as the 1977 HMV box (SLS5094, 4LP) has washed-out transfers of those two >>in electronic stereo<<. Yet he claims to have created Ambient Stereo's (mono 'on request'). Thus phoney-stereo>mono>to ambient. At least his current Turntable runs correctly....
He's not alone as 'Ganski' used a fine PU cartridge - but ruined transfers with Huge software intervention - the Corpse flattened by a Steamroller!
Mr B has now uploaded his 1980 Rangstrom Swedish LP (asked-for on Symphonyshare - Sym 3 + superb song side ) - and have uploaded My transfer - so they can be compared...
Oh no, this can’t be your last remaster/upload, please don’t keep to your word! I have enjoyed SO many of your fabulous uploads with great performances, well presented to include interesting info & covers! You do a great job & I for one supremely appreciate your work. So many thanks, Nikos (can’t seem to comment other than anonymously?!).
ReplyDeleteI don't know how good the transfers are (or seem): as when I'd used CDRW 16bit recorders (were near identical) but via editing Computer (into amplifier) I got mediocre/unacceptable results.
DeleteLooking-around, I see few blogs/sites getting Feedback - but surely it must be Obvious that sites like this need some Encouragement.
Maybe if I'd been able to generate a modest income (micro-payments) - or actively used the site to sell LP's - then perhaps... but I've commented numerous times about The Time + my unwillingness to wet-clean...so have probably Finished.
Don't even feel inclined completing a variety of half-finished projects (+ had endless 24bit computer problems during 2019) - AND IT'S POSSIBLE ALL THE IMAGE FILES MAY DISAPPEAR AFTER 20 JULY - Google are removing the "Picasa" albums where they're stored!!!
Many thanks for this - I had the LP god knows how many years ago!
ReplyDeleteDiscerning collector!
DeleteBought this shortly before from Oxfam @99pee - & my only CA LP.
Shows how simplicity in recording and then transfer to LP can provide something special...was taken by surprise.
