Sleeve-note / EMG review >>>
Thank you for another excellent transfer, Tin Ear, and for sharing the EMG review! One of the great early London/Deccas! I have the Ace of Diamonds reissue of this one with 8E/3E matrices - the sound signature is similar to that of yours.
ReplyDeleteAs the pressing was Awful (defied numerous washes - and I must've previously tried some 'Permostat' - have used some declick + bit of treble.
DeleteThe sides are sonically maybe a bit mis-matched (also have the 8E/3E SDD).
Only uploaded as saw Mr.Pristine just did it (+ the Curzon/Grieg PC)..ha ha!
Now only have space for 1 more on Mega (the Beatrice Lillie/LSO SXL is partially edited - and is a hoot - though the 1955 "An Evening With" is rather faded in terms of relevance).
sounds great, thank you very very much.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason it doesn't have a gloopy/bassy resonance reverberating around the Norwegian Fjords: though avidly await MusicWeb's 'recommendation' for that 'enhanced' effort.
DeleteIt's interesting that a decades-later reissue got a Hi-Fi News/RR 'C' rating for sound ('Viva'?).
Were it not for some dreary tempi I'd consider Susskind's Philharmonia mono (c/w Norwegian Dances: 33SX 1057) as the playing seems rather superior.
Thank you so very much for another priceless treasure digitized with impeccable mastery!
ReplyDeleteIt's not That good! (the 8E/3E mastering would've come out better as wouldn't have required the intervention mentioned above).
DeleteHave a decent number of Decca Ace of Diamonds using early (SXL) masterings but, as mentioned numerous times, I don't like washing pre-1975 Decca LP's
