Intended uploading this in April but as CRQ have just done the Krips/RPO Mozart/Haydn (here) - decided to complete editing these files. Just a wash'n'go - no auto-declick - so not a snooze-a-thon. Transfer a bit brighter/cleaner than the 1968 Festivo reissue.   Philips "Festivo" SFM 23024  Cover & Sleeve-note >>>

    1. These are lively performances (mostly: adagio sag a little in concentration - like the Bruckner/Beinum) & got good reviews.
Mentioned this previously as being good soundwise (also the Universo Grumiaux Bruch/Mendelssohn)..something that was recently brought-home as got a new 1982 6LP box of Haydn 'London' Sym - Davis/Concertgebouw - for £5 - where the sound was very smooth(ed) - and the first 2 LP's heard were riddled with vast pre/post echo...bloody annoying, that!
Have a few unfinished projects like this - as previously stated..

    1. Well-worth having these excellent performances IN VIVID SOUND.....

(through the early 70's I'd invariably buy Philips LP's - but scarcely-ever the contrived/bloated 'Dolby-ized' Decca-shockers (now have absolutely loads - even bought a new 99pee Solti/Chicago Beethoven 5 yesterday:- which probably sounds OK on "Tannoy Westminsters"..though Solti's VPO/Symphony 7 on SXL is excellent.

    1. Usou quase o mesmo equipamento LP (Thorens/SME/Shure) de 50 anos atrás.

  4. Thank you very much for this - so much better than the Decca/Eloquence remastering, with more bite and crispness. Meanwhile, wondering whether you have or would be interested to make a transfer of Sir Colin Davis' RCOA recordings of Haydn's Symphonies Nos. 86 (coupled with No. 98 on Philips LP) and 87 (coupled with No. 103 on Philips LP)? Both No. 86 & No. 87 have, utterly strangely, been completely forgotten by Universal, lingering in their vaults and never issued on CD until present.

    1. The 93-104 box from a few weeks back provided my only copies of Haydn Sym/Davis (on Philips): so don't have 86/87.

Last time I looked (ECO discography) Leppard's Haydn Sym/Philips avoided CD - as has the 1961 Davis J.C.Bach Symphonies (see added sleeve - intended uploading that ages-back; but it's the old 'not wanting to wet-clean' problemo (especially pre-1975 Decca vinyl). Also Leppard's Philips NPO/ECO JC & (partially)CPE Bach Symphonies:- very nice: bought originally in the 1970 - 'Bach Family' box-set.

    2. Davis recorded the Haydn 84 with the ECO in 1961 and it was released on L'Oiseau-lyre as the J.C.Bach Symphonies were. Like the Haydn 86 and 87 with RCOA it was never issued on CD. Unless Universal/Decca decides to produce a megabox of Davis' complete Decca and Philips recordings, the Haydn 84, 86, 87 and J.C.Bach Symphonies would remain marooned in the LP realm. Davis would later program the Haydn 84 in his concerts with the Bavarian Radio SO. Strangely, he never seemed to have taken an interest in the Haydn 85 ("La Reine" or "The Queen") as he never recorded it and I haven't yet seen any evidence that he had ever programmed it in a concert.

    3. Oiseau-Lyre SOL 60030 Haydn 84/Mozart K.190 is on Music Parlour blog (17 April 2013).
According to the Stuart discog the Davis/Stravinsky "Mass" isn't on CD (have it) - maybe another Mozart: I've only a 1980 Contour reissue of 36/38.
Bit of a mystery about the Hurwitz item on the JC Bach LP. It's not on Stuart's Decca discog - so presumably c.1961 Allen Stagg recorded - as the early ASMF? Found an (unsleeved) copy of a COA/Haydn - but not the one you wanted.

    4. Many thanks for the great pointer and share. I have found the 2013 links and downloaded the LP rips. The transfers are superb. Please don't worry about the Davis/COA Haydn 86 & 87, as I have managed to find and downloaded excellent LP rips from SymphonyShare.

  5. Greetings! I have downloaded and enjoyed your superbly musical and honest transfers for a couple of years now. I'm really sorry that I have not expressed my appreciation and admiration for your efforts before. I hope you continue to offer your treasures to us all! I would be most happy to pay for your downloads.

    Cheers,

    Ron

    1. Hello Ron, thanks for that (sounding here like 'Buster'!). Until a few years back did get contributions (from 2016 - after my truly massive Stroke..caused by zillions of hours editing LP's..) - quite useful to pay-off equipment/running costs - but my preference was always 'micropayments': possibly viable by now? (given the pretty huge downloading I'd only require cents/LP to make it worthwhile) - but, bizarrely, I found it near impossible to get 'requests' .....
BUT there is so much competition compared to a decade ago - gigantic/cheap reissue CD boxes YouTube/Internet Archive...so it really requires something 'niche' (which to an extent the 'Historical' blog is/was).
And there I run-up against my complete reluctance to mess-around with near noise-free/now-antique (and somewhat valuable) vinyl.
Elsewhere I mention 'HDTT' @£20/LP..which makes sense if the (hopefully..) perfect pressing can recoup its value that way. I see that product being 'pimped' by "Rushton" (reviews/Audio Asylum (left there after the obnoxious 'Chris from LaLa Land' got a little Fiefdom on 'Classical Court').
Despite the load of Swank about technology used/employed - there's a limit to what's in/can be extracted from a groove + electronics - but apparently it's a worthwhile Enterprise to pursue (also for 'Beulah': who MusicWeb informs the punters, can provide reassuringly noisy LP transfers!!).
The drop-off in my production rate is due to the foregoing - also DVD/YouTube videos - over 2000 and counting - eating into my time over the past few years.
