    1. Thought I'd make Comments available again (for a while) - so it's nice to get one (got fed-up getting <4-figure downloads without a single response!!).
Furtwangler 'requests' occured previous years: but I've never had any quantity as UK buyers seemingly didn't collect him (unless it was Wagner: and have the big EMI 'Ring' box). In the case of DGG, say the big c.1963 DGG 'In Memoriam' box, later transfers (on Privilege) are noticeably superior: but I've only the Schubert 9 /Beethoven VC/Schneiderhan. There are still worthwhile 'Not on CD' titles I'm considering - like Sargent's BBC Sibelius Sym.2 - recently found a 'new' 1966 copy...big surprise that!

  2. I understand.

What do you think of recent Furtwängler publications like « The radio recordings 1939-1945 » ? Do you consider it good or bad job ? Do you think it is possible to do better ?

I’ll be glad to have your opinion, I’m not a technician and I sometimes have the impression (maybe false ?) that marketing replace music.

Some Pristine/Rose publications, for example, seem to me to gadget (« ambiant stereo ») without respect for the original work, like colouring black & white movies.

    1. Re: Furtwangler (or any other) CD's -can't comment as don't buy/collect.
Re: LP's - now too late to find supplies in decent condition of the period I cover - so use what I have (far too many - but in perfect shape even if 70 years old) + the odd straggler acquisition, as mentioned.
Re: "Maison Rose" - well - what can I say! Given his success in flogging fakes to The Vulnerable/OCD Patients - I dunno why somebody hasn't created a business converting such material so as to sound 'just like' you'd hear from a 1950s/60s Radiogram/Big Wooden Console.
Totally daft this fake ambience as everything from the loudspeaker units/cabinets/room-placement+acoustics creates an additional ambient environment. He certainly happily buggers-up other peoples recordings without compunction - for financial-reward to stuff his mug!.
The analogy with colorised B&W movies is apt: it's really quite depressing to view such pastel-tinted 'me too' crap!!!
Anyway: thought I'd try the Beinum - quite likely he used the same LP.
Rather weird speed differences (not to mention the compression/'dirty' added ambience) - as although I used belt-drive I ensure the strobe remains static - all 3 files done sequentially. So it appears his turntable speed regulation is faulty - he gives his movement-timings on the Beinum 'buy this absolutely stunning transformation' webpage.

    2. Finding such old material in fine condition must be quiet difficult and probably very expensive too.

Unfortunately I can’t compare your Beinum, I don’t have the Pristine.

As oppose to Rose, did you heard some stuff from Immortal Performances / Richard Caniell ? I’ve got one recently and it’s a complete different approach, restoring job with no shit effects.

  3. The Andrew Rose remasterings change the interpretations: dynamics timbres, transients, legato, phrasings etc... are affected more or less at random by the electronic treatments that are meant to deal with 'sound', but not with music. As a consequence, they are not reliable.

    1. ABSOLUTELY! I assumed he dubbed from the same 1977 LP (did he: or was it cloned from the '24-bit' Beinum big CD box?).
But am Sickened seeing these 'MusicWeb' type reviews:- the guy is selling worthless fakes to the gullible (assisted by those cloth-eared 'reviewers') - as the transfers are obviously 'defective'.

Have been intending to add the scarce 1958 10" Philips LP of Beinum's 'Rossignol' / 'Firebird' (+ Decca ACL Fantastique: so much better than the original LXT) + 10" LW Carnaval/Faust - simply due to the excellence of the Concertgebouw.

There are 2 'mastertape' quality Philips Universo re-issues: Mozart Sym 36/38 (Jochum) + Grumiaux: Mendelssohn/Bruch VC in excellent interpretations.
