  1. Perhaps it's me, but the opening notes of 'Les Préludes' seem to be wonderfully recorded. Thank you so much for these excellent transfers of excellent performances.

  2. Try my best! Fricsay's 'Preludes' I thought likewise excellent upon recently playing a 1981 reissue.
    May upload Boult's 1812/Hamlet - which has super-quality for 1952.
Tend to get the impression these 'New SO' discs disguise a goodly chunk of the Philharmonia (?)

  3. Thanks TE. The great thing (well, one great thing, there were many others) about Boult is that he treated all music as good music, and lavished as much care and attention on it as he would Beethoven. I remember borrowing the "Festival of Light Classics" box when a teenager, and waited many years before I found a set in good condition. Your rip is superb. And what recordings! Gerhardt/Wilkinson I presume, over there in deepest Walthamstow. Only the best was good enough for RD.

ps I once checked some recording data and found this schedule in one week at Walthamstow. Mon - RPO, Tues - RPO. Wed - RCA Victor SO, Thu - New SO, Fri - RPO. I doubt if there was much to-ing and fro-ing of instruments.

  4. Hello Andrew, Luckily had 2 sets as Hebrides had a stuck-groove!
I've come to appreciate Boult rather more since hearing his earlier stuff; his subtle pacing/'right' tempi is a delight.
A new condition Pye-Nixa of Brahms no.2 turned-up some months back and is very worthwhile (have 1/4 as '67 Marble Arch).
(The same shop provided the Collins/RPO - and just got Blech's 1955 Haydn 103/Mozart 33 - so perhaps some more 'gaps' will get filled?!

  6. After manually removing the Tiniest flaw - then running the files through the lowest Izotope setting.
Could do my 1st Edition 1958 ROHO/Morel 'Swan Lake' (RCA SB2016)...
